A cat door to your bedroom is a good idea. We have one going to the basement, we used to prop the door open, but now the cat door is perfect. Although I wish we had found a cat door that had a way of closing it off if I needed to. But we didn't find one like that back when we installed ours. You may want to consider it. I have a anti-tick-and-flee product (she's due, by the way), and she was an outdoor cat when I took her in, so she demands to be let out; more often in the summer than in winter, mind you.
