Comics plurk time~ Covering four stories today: a case of pies (and a good bit of DAISY NO on the side); New Year's on the cheap; a short story of hidden kindness; and a Barks classic to round out the bunch.
We start out with the establishment of the side character in/for this story, a baker of cakes and pies "pie" is constantly used but some of these are cakes so. whatever. and Donald being his.... usual self.
Scrooge "Pie A Day" McDuck gets a visit from Bessie, and I cannot stand the cuteness of their apparent friendship, which of course comes with his usual "I'M NOT A NICE PERSON YOU'RE JUST USEFUL" bluster.
Alright, these last two are throwing it waaaayyyy back. This first one is even around the same time of year as the last. Santa's Unexpected Visit, first printed in a Christmas special in 1955, though these images come from a 1977 reprint in U$ 137.
Its writing is pretty gooey and it of course features a visit from Santa (surprise), but I can't resist the idea of it. We start out seeing Scrooge writing a letter to guess who, except he can't think of anything good to write about.
Call me a sentimental old fool (I doubt I'd be playing someone like Scrooge otherwise), but I love the idea that doing nice things is something that escapes his notice just because that's how he is, he's not doing them to get the credit, he's just doing them because.
melcat33 I know, right? XD I tend to stay away from the current in-print stories from Uncle $crooge, but this almost makes me want to cover IDW's Another Christmas On Bear Mountain, for more Santa shenanigans.
