new management says we (engineers) now have to clock in and out, and memo everything we're doing all day. Last time I punched a clock was 1980, I think

That's ridiculous! Whatever happen to trusting professional integrity? 
clocking in and out never worked for me, especially when I would forget to go home at all and still be there in the morning. Eventually they took my key away because health and safety meant you weren’t allowed to work alone. Alone was the only way I ever really worked.
