Wait till Olaf hears about this. He'll issue a Betätingungsverbot for every döner kebab eater lest this upsets the thin-skinned, full-of-anal-fissures, neo-fascist lobby of The State That Must Not Be Scorned™.

Funny that you say that, cause I have this from an article about our president. :-)‘Cliched’: Turkish-Germans react as president brings...

I wonder why we don't really call it doner kebab in the US, at least the areas I've lived in.

omgwtfbarb, I've seen a couple of outlets in Orlando (tourist haven) using "Doner Kebab" but most, especially the ethnic outlets are using Gyro (pronounced as Hero).

SqueakTomsen: yeah here it's usually called gyro if it's greek, or shawarma everywhere else. almost never doner kebab.

omgwtfbarb: in the areas of NorCal with a significant Turkish or Lebanese population I see "Donner Kebab", but everywhere else in the state it's gyro

SqueakTomsen: Gyros you mean?
Tillie

gyros is greek and doener is turkish, but it's kinda similar.

I think the meat is different.

"Kebab" is what's supposed to refer to the meat - I think it means "roasted"? Like shish kebab is "roasted meat onna stick", shish tawook is "chicken onna stick".

Just struck me, as I bite into my Bratwurst (in a hotdog roll) - why are we discussing kebabs at the home of the most delicious Currywurst ,itt fritten? That curry sauce is awesome.

Sequence of thoughts, Tillie - do you see, or hear of, a rum called "Daktari"? Can't find in USA but did once find a link to Germany.

Best gyros I've found in the Chattanooga area are from Arby's. A few other places serve them, but either the meat isn't quite right or the tzatziki sauce is gritty :-&

I wonder if DHL would deliver?
I thought it was illegal to mail alcohol - but my Google search, last night, says mailing alcohol through the US Postal Service is illegal - but couriers are fine.

The shipping would probably cost as much or more than the bottle.

Tillie: for gyros, you use pork. Not lean.

slutrix - No. Never pork. They are from Jewish and Muslim origins. Lamb and beef. Always.

yah, and doener is lamb or chicken or turkey, depending on where you get it. :-)
