It's late where I am so I am gonna expand on this later for people who replurk it- I am still trying to raise money on this for my sick (and expensive) cat. The previous funds that were initially raised all went into his care from last year so any little bit helps!
Thank you all for the replurks!!! Here's a quick rundown of what is going on with Mr. Pango:
So Pango has a disease called restrictive cardiomyopathy, which means that his heart lining is becoming stiffer over time, making it harder for his heart to pump blood through the body. Unfortunately with every beat of his silly little heart he ends up closer to the end.
Initially he didn't need medication because we caught it so early, but despite the cardiologist and I's best efforts, his disease has progressed to where he now takes a blood thinner once a day and a drug to help his heart work better twice a day.
The long-term prognosis is pretty grim (2 to 3 years max, and with Pango we're already past 2) so he has to go to the cardiologist every few months to monitor him aggressively.
This all adds up and the cherry on top is- he now needs teeth extraction! Anyone who has followed me for awhile will know that he already had nine (9!!!) teeth taken out since his time on the streets was not good to him, but now we're at about 3 more teeth that gotta go, and maybe more depending on xrays.
Of course, anyone reading this who has had a pet with heart disease knows that your animal is at an even higher risk of passing away while under sedation for any dental procedure, and unfortunately Pango's situation makes it even more complicated.
Since his disease has progressed, my regular vet doesn't feel comfortable doing his extraction since they don't have a full set up to monitor him closely and potentially stop him from dying if things go really south. So now I have to seek out a specific cardiologist dentist for animals to make sure he gets the proper care he needs and the best chance.
So this current round of fundraising is for- the regular cardiologist appointment, as well as for the specialist I will need to take him to for his teeth business. The next appointment I have with the regular cardiologist is on the 22nd of April, so any little bit helps.
Oh my goodness. I am so sorry you both are going through this. Pango is in our prayers.
shesays_ Thank you so much, I really appreciate it <3
Onomatophobia: ALSO THANK YOU I know you replurked this because there are more eyes on it than before, so thank you so so much
All the previous funds that were in this gofundme (think donations from like a few months ago, not current ones) have already been taken out for his previous dental surgery so anything truly does help.
The second one I affectionately refer to as: u got games on ur phone?
PBmajesty:
I'm praying for your little family vannie
replurked again hopefully it shows up on latest
Oh my goodness, he is so handsome.
🙏 things are tight for me but I wanted to chip in
angrbodic: Thank you, you are so sweet, I really do mean it, anything at all helps. I hope things get better for you soon!
i hope your cat can pull through
Oh, that poor perfect little creature.
i sent a little bit, it isnt much but
Onomatophobia: SWEETHEART YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO I know how bad you have it ;; you are so kind, truly
I know you'll have my back if I'm in trouble, I just wanted to pay it back a little bit
hello! give Pango my love
angrbodic: I shall!!! I'm out and about right now but when I am home I will give him a big kiss for ya!
please add another for me
Another bump! Donations have stalled out, so anything anyone can spare is welcome!
Mr. Pango, lap-stealer extraordinaire
Wooooow RCM is VERY rare and even rarer to diagnose antemortem. I don't have anything to spare but a replurk at the moment but best of luck!
DrFishbone: OK I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE ELSE KNOWS THIS because I got so so SO lucky with Pango. The rescue organization I got him from had a specific vet that they covered so I took him there for an initial wellness exam after adoption and the vet was like ".......he has a very slight heart murmur. it happens every 8 beats." and I was like ????
And then he ran some tests and found some enzymes that I guess meant heart disease, but it was extremely slight, and from there my regular vet recommended a specific cardiologist to figure out what exactly it was and well. Here we are!
If it hadn't been for that initial vet taking the extra time and effort of examining my baby, I doubt I would have had him this long
But Pango and I got lucky and we have had over two happy years together, despite his health crises
One of these days I am going to send that man flowers. He was classically New York in that he was a downright grumpy, brusque man, but really went above and beyond for his patients
I'm so glad you were able to find a cardiologist that could diagnose it 😭 cat hearts are notoriously WEIRD and a lot of vet cardios are just like
Sent a bit more
shesays_: Thank you so much, I appreciate it!!!
DrFishbone: YEAH HONESTLY just "idk bruh. have you tried turning the cat off and back on again?"
I want to share as a way of boosting but also letting you guys know more about my Pango: the rescue organization that adopted him out to me said he was a lap stealer but for the first like, 6 months he actually would do this thing we called Pango Time.
Pango Time is when he comes up to you, meows demandingly, and then begins to climb up your chest so you are forced to lie down and he can sit on your chest and purr and drool. He is Very insistent. Will keep attempting to climb you even if you try to roll away.
Anyway he caught me last night as I was trying to give myself some ear drops and just settled all thirteen pounds of himself onto my ribs. I love him, he's silly
Nowadays he steals laps AND demands Pango Time
I was already lowkey nervous about what the doctor is going to say to me when I bring Pango in on Monday, and now there is WATER coming out of our KITCHEN LIGHT FIXTURE
Why is everything so difficult 🙃
Anyway, here's another Pango picture as thanks for reading my ramblings (plus a bonus Boss because i love him)
i fucking Love pango I'd kill for him
Boosting this as well and I truly wish the best for your Pango! (and... wow sorry to hear about your OTHER troubles... "when it rains it pours" should NOT be a thing. I'm so sorry)
xindanobody: Thank you 😭😭😭 the water is still happening but hopefully our landlord has plumbers out first thing tomorrow to stop the madness. Never been more grateful for buckets in my life. Anyway have another Pango for your kind words
WHOOOOO DONATED 200 DOLLARS
OH MY GOD THANK YOU????? OMFG
Oh Pango is such a sweet baby!
Oh gosh, I'm glad that your landlord is actually taking care of this, though! (And yes, buckets are so useful! Tubs, buckets, anything!)
I also posted it on Twitter earlier. I don't have a lot of active people who pay attention, but I hope it'll help some!
And that's amazing! I hope you keep getting donos!
wooo $200 let's go!!
Today is the day of Pango's appointment and the day we have our kitchen ceiling being fixed. good lord is today stressful LOL
I had to feed the beasts in the living room using the cat tree as a table and my cat (Boss) who loves dry food was trying to CLIMB MY LEG to get to the big bag of his food
A full grown cat climbing your leg must hurt a bit.
Definitely. I love them but oh my god
They just get SO EXCITED for food
Also update: this appointment for Pango is currently at about 850, so with the donations so far that covers about half of this which helps a lot!!! I'll still be able to afford rent 😭
I say currently at in case something is real weird with his heart and they have to do more tests
Please pray that he ends up not needing the cardiologist dentist 🙏
HAPPY NEWS! His heart function has improved on the vetmedin, so the vet feels safe pushing his appointments out to every 4 to 6 months, rather than 3 to 4 like before, which thank you, I like to keep money for longer. My vet does think there is an increased risk for him to go under anesthesia but thinks if there is an anesthesiologist around it should be ok.
We'll see if my regular vet still feels comfortable after this, but otherwise I am going to see if maybe they have payment plans or something. Once again, all donations, however small, help. Y'all helped cover half of this visit!!! Which means more money for his food and general care
You all are amazing and I appreciate every last one of you ❤️
Oh what wonderful news!
I don't know if anyone's suggested this but you could see if you qualify for carecredit? you can use a cosigner
Great news to hear! I really hope things stay steady and that you can get a payment plan for any future visits ;;
Thank you, I am going to look into care credit though I always heard that it was pretty predatory towards pet owners so I am hesitant but I don't have many options otherwise
Care Credit is good if you just need money right away and can pay it back fairly soon, because the interest rate is like 30% if you don't manage to pay off the bill during the zero interest period.
Hmmm that's good to know actually, thank you!
np! I believe the promo periods are 6, 12, and 24 months.
^ yeah the catch with CareCredit is if you can pay it off within the promo period, it's 0% interest; if you can't, they get to charge you interest on the full amount you initially charged, not just what you have left to pay
but if you are able to pay in installments and your problem is needing the money up front, it is a solid option
I've seen a few suggestions for it on my plurk stating that it's come in handy as a last resort for a few people. I kinda heard that, too, especially with the fear of interest? But I guess if there's a promotion, there is none for a set time - if there's a promo?
if you put over a certain amount on it at once, it should automatically put that into a promo period
the website and terms should have details on amount vs how long the promo is
I'm still gonna ask for donations since anything less to pay would be great, but it's good to know that if I end up not being able to raise enough to cover anything, I can still get him healthcare 😭
yeah absolutely! I asked for donations as well as using my boyfriend's carecredit and my family's assistance
All right, so got a hold of my primary vet and they are looking over Pango's record right now. Hopefully they will call later today and let me know if they will operate on him or not. My cardiologist recommended a specific dental place as well if not so I'll look into that once I know and try to get an estimate.
Well, my vet told me they can't do it because Pango's cardiologist recommending having an anesthesiologist during the procedure and they don't have that there SO one of the expensive places it is...
Oh no. I'm so sorry to hear that.
I'm so sorry
Oh no... I'm sorry that it's turned that way... I really hope that between it all, you can get the funds super early. And yeah, It doesn't hurt to apply for the card just to have it available just in case if you do get accepted. Since you're not under obligation to pay if you don't use it. But a good safety net?
God I gotta call about these estimates but I am so nervous about what they are going to tell me.... uuuuugh. Gotta put on my big girl pants and get this done but also: screams
you got this.
I hope it goes well
you can do it!!! AND THEN scream!!
hey I'll have a bit of extra income soon, not rn but I'll try to donate a bit more!
Onomatophobia: My sweetheart, you don't gotta! I know you are going through it so please don't strain yourself!
PBmajesty: IT'S OKAY soon I probably won't have too much trouble with work!!
and I'll be providing lots of art!
So I contacted one of the places and they said it was 360 dollars for the consultation, not counting any tests or things they might want to do 🫠
360 dollars to look at my cat's mouth. ouch.
Gonna check the others ones but I am afraid that is the cheapest option....
It is insane how expense vet visits are.
yeah they make no sense at all
Update: The first option I contacted was the 360, the second one said it was 275 and the third location I realized would basically have to have a free consultation fee on top of anything else to justify the cost of getting me and Pango there (either almost 150 dollars both ways by car or 4 hours on the subway with my cat who should not be stressed out a lot)
So! I guess the decision has been made for me on that. Hopefully tomorrow when they are open I can get more info on what to do/more accurate pricing for his future dental stuff
I'm sorry I lost track of time and pain a bill but I'm a man of my word I just need a lil time!!
Onomatophobia: 1, pain a bill is very real, all bills are pain, and 2 absolutely no stress! Just your vocal support means a lot to me <3
I WILL COME AND ATTACK UR WALLET JUST U WAIT IM JUST POOR
Sent a little something
shesays_: You have been such a sweetheart and so, so kind. Honestly you are a light to everyone you meet, thank you so much 💗
PBmajesty: Thank you. That is very kind of you to say.
shesays_: vane is right, you absolutely are ❤️
It always bugs me they can't give better prices to let us know what we're getting into for our babies. "We have to see him to know..." is what I kept being told. The only concrete price I got was a single X-Ray and the initial visit. Everything else was "it depends".
I'm so sorry you're still going through the topsy turvy of this.
I hope that at some point in the future I can have some stability to have any funds that I won't need to donate to your Pango getting help b/c they'll get better help, but maybe to treats or toys or something.
You've had my support all of this time, too. <3
Posted an update on the GoFundMe, but Pango's consultation is tomorrow! Minimum payment is going to be a bit over 500 dollars since there is the consultation fee and then a non-refundable booking fee for his surgery. at least it will go towards his surgery but uuuugh
Also I apparently do not pre-qualify for CareCredit which is... not the best to hear! But! that doesn't mean I will be rejected for a card, so if I go down that route, I'll try and see what happens
Thank you all for your kind words, my mental health has been in the toilet because of this and other life things, so knowing that so many people want to help Pango get better is really wonderful 💗
I'm sorry you also had the same for CareCredit. I mean. People who go to that generally need it, so. I'm really sorry for that part. And I definitely understand how it can take that hit to your health in all the ways.
I hope there's some sort of good news during the visit. ANYTHING promising, good, hopeful. and here's another boost to the plurk itself!
ily vannie I'm sorry that they rejected you like that when you needed the help so bad
Yeah, you deserve better than that.
OOF the price is..... bad
Definitely over the 500 something dollars
They're unsure if he needs extractions but... oof
So for this consultation it ended up being about 820 dollars, and the estimate for the actual procedure could be from 2300 to over 4000 dollars ☠️
Because of the anesthesiologist :')
No idea how I am going to pay for this AND I got caught out in the rain so me and Pango are soaked
Oh gosh. I'm praying for both of you.
yeah it is. bad. Gonna try and formally apply for CareCredit and see if it works. Turns out you can be rejected for pre-qualifying for something if you opted out of receiving credit card ads like I did LOL so for all I know, it could still work out for me
It does put my credit score at risk, but we're not going to be moving for a bit so hopefully if they reject me outright, it won't take a huge hit
worst case, your scores will go down a couple points but you can fix that a number of says with stuff like Kickoff and GrowCredit
there's also Dovly that will help you send off disputes on your credit and disputing boosts your score VERY fast
angrbodic: Oh thank you, that's really helpful!
there's also Self, Credit Strong, and Kovo
oh my god WHO DONATED 500 DOLLARS??? AND THEN THE THREE PEOPLE WITH 100... OMFG GUYS I AM GONNA CRY 😭😭😭
All right, I formally applied for CareCredit and yup, they rejected me. Their credit calculations are insane, frankly. My credit score is a little over 700 and by their accounts I got a score of 505. That's insane, frankly
So I am on my own. Not entirely unexpected but still disappointing
So! Once more, please spread this around if you can so that I can at the very least cover a part of the cost since I certainly can't afford it 100% now
Yeah. I was surprised with how many suggestions are for CareCredit, yet how difficult it is. There's one that's a little more "lenient" supposedly, but I'm not sure how much the interest is and it's NOT accepted by all vets. Let me look it up.
Okay it's scratchpay, I believe, but it looks at a credit score of 580? But I mean. I suppose you can try?
Gonna unplurk and replurk this again to boost it again.
I'm also going to repost it on twitter. I don't really have a reach, but if maybe one person can see it and it can domino into more...
Thank you sweetheart! and yeah I don't understand why CareCredit is suggested so much when like no one I know is accepted??? It's really weird
also replurking again ... i hope it helps
i didn't realize Care Credit was so hard to be accepted into. my parents have it. x-x my b, i think i +1'd it
That might be what I need to do if I decide to go for it. Do you know how long it will take to be accepted? that way I am not left in the lurch waiting but needing to pay the bill LOL
I didn't realize either. I applied for it years ago when a cat of mine was in the hospital and was approved like right away. I regretted it a bit after spending almost a decade paying off the several thousand I charged to it though.
dropitlikeitshod: YIKES that sucks!!! Can I ask what your experience was? You don't gotta share more if you don't want
At the vet specifically or with CareCredit?
Oh! Well, I applied at the animal hospital and got approved for up to...$6800 I think? with a 6-month no-interest promo period I charged a bit over $4000 to it initially but wasn't able to pay it off so the interest was somewhere around 35%.
