香港失掉獨立關稅區地位的可能性 在「一國兩制」下，廣義上來說，香港只有外交及國防事務由中國直接管理，香港可以中國香港的名義參與國際組織，在經貿層面，香港可以自行與其他國家商討雙邊合作，所以順理成章，香港也是世界貿易組織一個非主權國成員，國際社會普遍承認香港在經濟上的獨立地位，法律、稅務事宜等，也與中國大陸有所分別。
不過值得一提的是，世貿規定成員需要在對外貿易關係和參與WTO事務上享有「完全的自治權」，不得受到所屬國家的干涉才能夠保持成員身份，意味著一旦中國政府在經貿層面施以「干預」，世貿有權取消香港的成員身份。
