St. John's area south of Jacksonville
Love? Not a whole lot, other than easy access to typical tourist things in central florida. No earthquakes so that's a plus for me. Hurricanes are kind of uncommon lately.. I dont like the weather personally,
I like cold weather and Florida is very typical subtropical. Warm, wet, humid. Even when it gets cold in winter it doesnt last long and doesnt really drop below 30s often
Some people may see this as a good thing though! So there's that.
Beaches are nice for the most part, crowded during summer but if you're used to chilly weather up north then you can go to the beach during the 'winter' months and its not so crowded
Silachan: We have had enough of cold snowy winters, even the kids hate the winter weather now.
Then you'd probably like the weather here really. I'm just jaded, I've been here for 20 odd years and always wanted to move out
I have been up here for 30+ snow is over-rated
There's also a fair amount of national parks! I'm not sure just where the st johns area is, I'm in central florida between Orlando and Daytona
so it's just a half hour to an hour drive to orlando, or in the other direction toward the beach. And there's a lot of stuff to do in orlando even besides Disney/Universal
It's south of Jacksonville less than an hour from the airport there
ahh so you'll be a little more north eastern then, just googled it
Pensacola is nice, regionally - its no where as warm as a lot of the state, but coastal. And Florida does do some things right, even with Voldetor/Skelemort as Gov -then again, I moved from Ga.
we are moving from CT so the cost of living difference will be interesting to see too.
I was born in CT, moved when I was 4. My mom moved here for the same reasons I think. Weather and stuff. Look for a Publix and Wawa! Publix makes the best subs and Wawa is a great gas station/conv. store
I pretty much refuse to eat Subway subs now
I just moved here three months ago. I'm in Daytona Beach. It's not big for nightlife and it can get rather boring. Lots of old people. But I love the beach and I'm a hour from Orlando so I can go to Disney
The kids will be happy to know there is a place to get subs. Where can the best coffee be had?
Probably starbucks or if you can find any small local town coffeeshops. I have some over in downtown deland that are nice but I dont know much about jacksonville
ariaaa: With the kids Disney is more important than night life. Who am I kidding I love Disney as much as they do.
Silachan: I will have to do some exploring when we get there. I will probably get lost but that is what GPS is for right?
yup
I like Starbucks, Publix, Disney and Beach. That's all honesty right there. So far the Italian and Bbq is pretty awful. But they are known for seafood
ariaaa: My Grandmother lives there [and her mom did when I was really little], is the old bandstand still there? Was this lovely halfshell backed stage, loved going there when I was little.
Besides Disney/Orlando the only other part of the state I have ever been to is Clearwater because my grandparents lived there. I loved the beaches because they are nice and sandy and not rocky like here.
It's still here and pretty ! They don't seem to use it in winter so maybe in summer they do ? It's lovely to look at.
I don't know, we'd go down every summer, and do Disney with my grandmother and visit my Greatgrandmother. And then I had to start working summers, and the city stole my Mommom's house and forced her into an
apartment, to build a parking lot for Peabody auditorium, and then she died when I went to college, so I haven't been able to go visit since [so since 82]
palmetto bugs (aka roaches)
just the bugs, and the heat, but otherwise i likde florida, also there's no inspection for vehicles and stuff so sometimes you see really terrible cars driving around. Love bugs too- the ones that can damage
your cars paint (again some might be regional)
The only Love Bugs I know are called Herbie
Lovebugs are these small bugs that fly around connected....
Right so I should prepare for the possibility of the girl child freaking out about bugs.
the cool thing is the lizards
little lizards roaming around
Yes, lots of little lizards and they are adorable. Also a fair bit of neat birds.
I loved the little lizards I saw at my grandparents house
I live in Jacksonville Beach and grew up in St. Johns/Ponte Vedra. The weather is both good and bad, it's a bit bi-polar but the warm sunny days are awesome and even the cold days aren't that bad and a nice
break from the heat. If you're moving to the beach, watch for shitty tourist or townies in the summer, there were quite for few bad drunk driving accidents last summer at night. Bugs obvs suck here, and wax
your car on the reg cause the the salt air will fade the paint.
Any bridge that takes you toward the beach and over the st. johns river we call the "ditch" so you won't be confused lol
St. Johns County is kinda big and some differences, PV is right below Jax Beach, then there's Nocatee which is a newer development that is basically it's own little town, then St. Augustine which you must go!
I'm a walking encyclopedia about my hometown lol so if you have any questions just ask
You are going to be my go to!
lol sounds good to me, i met my bestie on sl who ended up moving right down the street from me before moving again to tx so it was a lot of fun driving around with her and seeing my city through new eyes ya kno
It will be so new. My grandparents live in a retirement community and we always stay at Disney park properties now so exploring a whole new area will be fun and slightly terrifying.
We're a pretty nice bunch although my mom likes to call northerners who move down here damn yankees lol
I promise to be a friendly damn yankee
Whoa there is a lot more going on there than I am used to. We have been focusing so much on school rating and safe neighborhoods we kind of forgot stuff like that.
I vaguely remember in my school days that most of the schools in st. johns were blue ribbon, still not exactly sure what that means but I'm guessing good lol and we have some decent prep schools and crap forgot
what those other schools are called that focus on specific classes like math, science and theatre
Those sound like the magnet schools we have up here.
magnet! that's it, i knew it started with a M
I only know that because we thought about sending the boy to one.
I looked into them when I was a teen cause I was just so over public school. Very introverted and a loner and couldn't stand being around 100's of kids anymore.
He just hates the "other classes" that get in the way of math and science.
That's lucky to be that focused into what you like, I'm too scatterbrained lol
He totally takes after his dad. I am lucky I can remember our phone number most days.
i love near st. johns county
