Would it help to survey the kids and ask them how/if it has helped?

I would love to hear what others have to say. I've been struggling with this concept.

bit to convince the board don't we have to have hard numbers? A survey is more random isn't it?

Track student engagement. See if using devices increase student engagement.

It also helps to pick a specific area of focus like reading. I am elementary so I did fluency. Students recorded themselves reading weekly and we used their improvements as data

If students are blogging you could also track writing. Perhaps with a pre and post writing assessment.

okay playing devil's advocate here. are these things a direct result of using the iPad? could the same results happened if the students had used a Chromebook for a netbook?

so you're saying whatever device, project, dog & pony show, that engages students is what we look at?
