I will NOT be naming the pokemon after my friends this time, I got tired of doing that
they will get bespoke nicknames
"You forgot the rule that you have to name every pokemon" I always name ever pokemon
Level cap is currently 15

first pokemon: Mr. Bird
Ability appears to be a x1.5 multiplier to fire damage when at under 33.3% HP

Nuzlocke begins
so, by the area designation, my starter actually counts as my Route 101 encounter
so I can't get another from there
I'm going to add a corollary to my level cap rule
The level cap rule is ignored whenever I am inside a gym
so if my guys go over the level cap during the gym challenge it's OK
also applies to the elite four and champion

Route 102 catch: Zote
it seems this pokemon can take two different paths to evolution
Shield Dust seems like a useful ability... in the later game
for now not many moves have secondary effects
and status moves don't count
let's see... first gym is rock
so I need to be on the lookout for grass, water, fighting, or ground moves
Torchic is definitely the hard mode first gym
sure didn't just almost lose my starter to a wild zigzagoon crit

Route 103: Barkarina
okay apparently Taillow DOES have a Flying move at level 3
fortunately, Zote did not instantly die
yeah I think gen 3 was where Peck superseded Tackle as the basic "it came free on your xbox" move for birds
must be nice, having a STAB move

Route 104: Admiral
I thought I had a rock gym sweeper but it's weak to rock...
I think I need to train up Barkarina and Zote to a high level and just neutral through it
no not Zote, that's weak to rock
god it's literally just my dog
this is not, like, Definitely Guaranteed, but if i was doing it
i would train up admiral and use the fact that rocks are usually slow
and just water gun through and pray
if water gun one-shots the enemy mons then you don't have to worry about the matchups
WHY DOES THIS RANDO HAVE A FULL RESTORE

hmm!
so this puts him on the Dustox route
Shed Skin, 1 in 3 chance each turn to purge any non-volatile status condition
my early game survival math is:
- Note damage done by the enemy's first hit
- Increase that number by one, then double it, to get the Cutoff
- If HP <= Cutoff, switch out
so if a tackle does 3 damage, I'm safe until I hit 8 HP

Petalburg Woods: Bait
straight into the box with you
the rando is a Rich Kid iirc
Rich Ladies can afford Full Restores

absolute nailbiter of a fight
he had a lv9 poochyena jacked up on Howl that could 2-hit anyone on my team

team status by the time I got to safety
scary moment: I forgot about the kamen rider matchup
ah, you got through Run Killer #1: Weirdly Jacked Dog
which one, the first aqua grunt?
yeah that almost tanked my first run
there's three walls really where nuzlockes in gen 3 go to die and the solo match against the dog that punches you in the face is the one people don't expect
your second rival fight and, in emerald, the psychic gym leader (which is a double battle, which are naturally more stressful in nuzlockes since both guys can just team up on one of yours)
second rival fight is largely where speedruns go to die, too; it's just a rough fight since your rival has second stage starter and you probably will not yet
especially rough since speedruns go with mudkip and grovyle absolutely shreds through it
is second counting the start-of-run starter fight
yeah. you don't face that for a while though, i forget exactly where route 110 is but i want to say it's between the second and third gym?
