Yak’s godson from Marseille will be here tomorrow until Sunday afternoon. We’re going through Yak’s stuff for him to have plus his saxophone. I’m excited to see him but of course I’ve got mixed emotions over all this. I’m ready to part with his cd and album collection and it’s the right thing to give it to him, but I’ll honestly miss having his horn around.
latest #29
I know it’s the right thing to do and I’m ready to change the space in my living room a bit, but I’m still a bit sad about it. I also must admit I had a bit of a heart stab because he told me he plans on selling it to pay for some dental work. Then a couple of people told me that the horn needs to be played and I think that’s true.
It’s still emotionally difficult for me to part with it.

Instruments can be so deeply personal. I hope the youngster makes a lot of music with the horn. ❤️
Sabetha: yup. Well his godson is no youngster! LOL I think he’s in his late 30’s or early 40’s. Can’t remember. I’ll find out tomorrow. He has a daughter who’s 12-13 now I think. I met her when I visited them in Marseille two years ago. She’s a sweetheart and has completely stolen my heart!
Maybe whoever he sells it to is a youngster though.

Just realise the horn will be making music again. You may not see it every day any more but in your heart you will hear the notes.
sjonsvenson: yes, that’s a bit of a consolation. I’m keeping his used reeds though and the silk handkerchief that protected the mouthpiece.
I have to remember to take pictures before it’s gone.

you're giving Yak's godson his saxophone and the godson is going to sell it? is that what I'm reading? that would personally make me not want to give it to him.

An instrument adapts to its player and its player to it; they change one another subtly over time. That sax has been shaped by Yak’s music and no matter who plays it now, the music will be shaped just a little by Yak. Letting it go into the world to make music will bring just a little bit of Yak back into the living world. You’re doing a beautiful thing.

Maybe take a good picture of the horn and make a collage of it with other Yak pics? I don't know if it would help, but it's worth a shot. When my husband died, there were things I had trouble letting go of, so I have pictures and I wrote stories to go with them.

horribilis: that's a good idea. a nice framed photo of it would be a sweet tribute.

omgwtfbarb: yes, that’s what’s happening. He needs dental work and he doesn’t play instruments. He owns a brewery and is also a DJ.
I can relate to the teeth thing because this was a big deal for Yak and his implants too.
dkronfeld: thank you friend!

My question - is the godson bringing wine? :-)
Qwis: I’m not sure but probably not. More likely he’ll bring beer from his brewery. Plus he meets his friend in Salzburg by train so I’m sure his luggage is limited. They’ll drive here together from there. His friend will drive him back to Marseille on Sunday with whatever he takes.

horribilis: thanks! Yeah, I’m grateful I have them. He also had an earlier career as a press photographer and afterwards a portrait photographer. He met lots of people in person including David Bowie, Golda Maier and Moshe Dyan.
