The outspoken former mayor of Taipei has been popular with younger voters who say they want something new from the old two-party system.

“Just like other countries, there are recurring corruption issues, nepotism issues under the leadership of different political parties in Taiwan, and I think voters here want to know that the person who is going to lead them for the next four years is an honest man,”
