Apple in general is a very evil company.
there is a simple solution to this 'problem' - don't use their services...but I don't see that happening.
: I personally don't see companies as 'good' or 'evil' when ultimately they all chase the same thing - profit.
Thanks for passing this on. If MS could, I am sure they would claim ownership of all docs created by Word.
Absolutely all about profit. As one post said shortly after launch Apple isn't in this to revolutionize anything. This is a grab at market
share and ultimately profit.
To me is seems very un-Apple like. Almost rushed. Like the Jobs bio and hint at this which has been rumored since release of the book
caught them off guard and they were unsure how to proceed without rushing the product to launch before someone else did.
Apple in general is a very evil company.
As long as one doesn't forget a company is in it FOR the profit, then you can choose to use their services without sentimentality.
Most companies license technology to others. Apple buys, and sues to keep others from advancing similarly. They don't have to operate this
Way, but in doing so hold back an entire industry. Apple has notoriously treated employees poorly, and treats consumers poorly as well. Like
Suing those who raffle iPads... So they will get no more money from me.
ok, so give an example of a 'non-evil' technology company or any other for that matter. Should they just forgo profit and give it all away?
: I will argue that Apple treats their customers poorly. I previously had Dell's but with their p*$$ poor service & having to be
serviced overseas by others who spoke very broken English & told that I could speak to someone in the US for $$ I dropped them like a hot
potato. I've gotten excellent service & have had no problem like I did with that 4-letter word one
if you want to buy a Lexus or Mercedes you go to those dealerships, if you buy a book published by Random House don't expect another company
to make you the same exact item, they can't its called copyright laws, so why not the same with apps & e-books? Double standards?
I have 400 Dells in service. I can call 24h a day & get help. During us business hours I get us based call centers! Dell custom builds for
Me IN THE US. I just ordered 65 Optiplex 980s this week & got notified last night they shipped.
They overnight parts to me, and I have on site service in 24h from a local tech paid by DELL.
Yet another story of why I don't believe in Apple anymore. Good machines at a premium price, but horrendously evil company.
: I'm glad Dell has kept up for you, they failed miserably for me. I hope they can keep up the good work, which you pay a premium
: you might want to be careful as to what you are comparing Apple to, Dell has gone that way too
Funny thing is that to compete, all companies have gone this way. Some with remorse, some without. Actually you brought up Dell, I did not.
And that premium I pay... I explained my feelings to my Dell rep, who promised to work with me. I paid $430 each shipped for 4Gb i3s with 3y
Dell service failed for our District
Warranties. Great for student workstations. Most companies will work with me and I try to keep my demands reasonable. But not Apple.
i wonder if tech guy would reconsider at $500 per machine?? Where do you find that deal??
In what way? They refused? Bad local techs? (We have recently become self certified)
I have a few Dell refurbs in my classroom...they last me a couple of years
I just know wht our tech guy says and he summarizes "Dell service $####" (he is not so eloquent when I suggested we look to them vsGateway
I call & work with my rep. When my original rep left, he set up a conference call with new rep & they called me together. I buy 100 machines
a few years ago...we have Apple now since Gateway has since failed for us (
Per year, although I have bought more the last three years with carts & laptops...
(we ordered new labs, they failed to deliver machines)
maybe we jsut did not do a good job of finding/communicating with our rep
Did not deliver machines?! That is what they DO! I custom order (no optical drives on desktops, no webcams on laptops, other internal tweaks
And they ship within days.
Again, I didn't bring up Dell. But at least they have enough still invested in the US that they can do this, unlike Apple.
: really, so why was it that as a Dell customer I could only speak to someone in India? Yes, I did bring them up, but be careful as
to who you are calling the kettle black. Dell outsourced their CS years ago, 8,800 people in the US lost their jobs because of that
I know I can't convince you, but I do hope you begin to see that all co's will outsource if it makes their profit margins higher
You seem to be hung up on Dell. I get US made machines and US support (when I ask for it). And you are right - as long as we allow these
companies to outsource EVERYTHING they will. They don't care about human rights, the environment or anything beyond money. Its not something
you can legislate. I don't need to be convinced - I think you get hung up on perhaps the wrong details. Dell isn't important here.

Please humor me, stifle the anger, and check it out. Start with something less near & dear
to you than Apple. Help three small businesses in your community this month, and every month throughout thye year.
one thing is for sure, this post certainly sparked a conversation, didn't it? I like the 3/50 project...supporting small, local businesses
wonderful...great idea. Of course, there's an (evil) app for that...
