    i think some trad web stats are still valid like page views, unique visitors, etc if your goal is increased online presence

    absolutely, they should be. things like sales #s and customer retention are valuable but longer term

    also, just tracking reputation online, you should see an increased # of places where your brand is mentioned in a positive way

    AmberCadabra, agreed. You can't discount trad. marketing metrics or planning.

    the essence of social media is very organic, so it's hard to put hard numbers to it unless you track the RESULTS of the interactions

    as in, what actions people take because of the community they're part of

    referrals is another good one, if you're good at tracking that
