The username may be an indicator of what a person is "about" but really I chase content. What they say is what attracts me.
  • bloggeries says
I"m talking about when you are in a plurk that has 100 responses. You can't check everyone; subconsciously it plays a part I believe.

I usually check a profile based on a username, but location and plurks are most important.
  • Snorkelbuddy gives
no thought to usernames; just the users behind them
  • whitknits says
LOL! Just did the double-take, artoudeetou!
  • TJCS63 says
I don't give them a lot of thought. I am "branding" TJCS63 when ever I can. I look at who is behind the name.
  • Natitude says
I like to use the same name on all profiles... it helps ppl to know me on another profile... it makes me mad when I can't have my name haha
  • hacool says
I don't really think about it in terms of whether or not to look at a profile. I like consistency between services though.
  • hacool says

  • corntoole says
sometimes usernames catch my attention, but most of times I look at their posts or their profile picks, so they could be generic FWIW
  • Awflasher(阿瓦) says
I don't think so. I think display name are more important
  • Devyl d'Amore thinks
not so important, because I am completely and totally uncreative and know it works against me.
  • Devyl d'Amore says
So, I don't hold such things against others :-D
  • reneguerrero
i'm the exact opposite and hold it against everyone. (kidding! but not really...)
  • jmak is
consistency is important to me, so I *try* to have all my online accounts come under the same username. Awflasher: how's that different?
  • jmak is
as for other people, I ignore any profile with a username that has multiple "x"s or excessive number of, uh, numbers.the shorter the better.

the username and the profile image is what i look for when registering for a new social networking site

mine is the same everywhere. It's easier to find me and having my username available increase the value for me as well.
  • Rosana says
My own username is pretty important to me, because I can be found on many places and I would like for people to find me and not someone else
  • Rosana says
who is using my name. For that reason I consider a user name to be important. But I don't care extremely about other peoples usernames
  • Rosana says
(as long as they are nice)
  • Yashoo says
his criteria is gender... if its a male, its a no go.. if its a female.. its always a go (s_tongue)

it's rarer these days to use your real name as your username; whatever you say, people will know who you are and you can't hide behind a un.
  • Cylithria says
wow, I never thought of this because I always use my real name since it is a one of a kind. Huh. point to ponder
  • bellamoden says
    definitely very important to me.
  • WayneJohn says
who's hiding? I put my ass out there for all to like and/or criticize. I believe it lends more credibility

he wasn't saying that at all. :-)
  • puresurplus thinks

it's important, especially when you keep the same one in most places. Helps identify people you know from other sites.
  • SharonHH says
sometimes I avoid profiles based on the username
  • WayneJohn feels
misunderstood sometimes. :-( But all is well regardless. :-D
  • WayneJohn thinks
people that use 'waynejohn' as a username should give it over to him if their name is not Wayne John. :-)
  • AllanCockerill
I use the same username everywhere I can, and try and include my real names as well...
  • Becca L-Smith wishes
her username doesn't affect her standing in others eyes. It's actually my last name and I use it everywhere because it's unique.
  • Becca L-Smith says
It can be challenging to find usernames that mean something. All the best ones are already taken.
  • Becca L-Smith says
Besides, it's easier not to judge because of that. Some people with weird usernames are actually really, really nice.
  • ror says
they certainly can be important, as can what is said be important. Then again, there's not much more to go on is there? :-P
  • wiggletoes says
not much. I follow people more because of their plurks. ;-)

  • Jason Peck
avatar is just as (if not more) important
  • bloggeries says
if you aren't going to go real name might as well use a handle. If you have a common real name... Once again a handle ;-)
  • rjleaman thinks
we react to usernames as first impression, yes - but maybe not consciously. *sexypic123* gets diff eyes than *DefLepFan* or *mom2josh* etc
