Thanks. I hate it when people are all "baw we have to preserve biblical marriage"
  • Crow Witch
It's like "uh, do you know what that IS?"
  • Jesslaw
who even says biblical marriage anymore
  • Jesslaw
it's 'traditional' marriage, so that they can say it's whatever traditions they want
  • Crow Witch
Well all right, that's actually valid. While "Biblical" marriage is said, "traditional" is more common.
  • Jesslaw
but it's like...so....the traditions of the last 60 odd years in your bland white-washed imaginings of history?
  • Morning ❅ Star
99% of the Bible has "traditions" that we really shouldn't be keeping anyway. Like, you know. Selling your daughters and stoning your wives
  • Jesslaw
because monogamy for dudes is BRAND NEW
  • Jesslaw
    historically/culturally speaking
  • Judayre
Well, and that provokes the instant question "What tradition?"
  • Morning ❅ Star
EXACTLY. And "traditionally" there are many cultures that condone same-sex relationships.
  • Jesslaw
and they only SAY 'traditional' instead of 'my personal denomination of christian' because they pay lip service to
  • Jesslaw
    respecting the 1st amendment
  • Judayre
Of course. Because traditional Islamic marriage or traditional Chinese marriages completely don't fit the pattern they want.
  • Judayre
I mean, heck. One man/one woman violates Muslim's 1st Amendment right to freedom of religion.
  • Jesslaw
There's actually a ton of 1st amendment case law that says otherwise, re: old time mormons
  • Jesslaw
but the rational there is...yaknow...CIVIL marriage
  • Judayre
I know. It's still just a fun tack that I ...really probably wouldn't use against someone pulling "traditional" marriage arguments.
  • Judayre
There are so many better comebacks!
