| NudeRiver | survived this very stressful time -- tenants have moved out and we have our house back |
| NudeRiver | after a scary phonecall from the tenants this morning, I played hookey from work and spent the afternoon at the house |
| NudeRiver | spent a few hours trying to change a lock |
| NudeRiver | and also worked hard cleaning up the place |
| NudeRiver | brought 7 garbage bags full home -- threw them out here |
| NudeRiver | the tenants had some ridiculous comment when I just asked them to take their cat litter garbage home with them... they said... |
| NudeRiver | there not taking garbage to their new home... |
| NudeRiver | like... why should I be responsible for their garbage!! |
| NudeRiver | anyway.. they're gone!! |
| NudeRiver | now just need to repaint the house and sell it... |
| NudeRiver | we're thinking it's in pretty good shape still -- so, we should be able to sell it |
| NudeRiver | the basement apartment is really the high point of the house now -- the basement tenants really took good care of it |
| NudeRiver | here's the story of the phonecall from the tenants... first off, my wife entered the home after midnight -- as they had to be out by the 31 |
| NudeRiver | my wife was already on her way there |
| NudeRiver | the tenants then phoned me and said they will still need to come over on the 1st, to clean the place |
| NudeRiver | plus... they left their cats in the home overnight... when I said my wife was on her way there, they replied they would prefer... |
| NudeRiver | if she didn't go in.. with the excuse they didn't want the cats to get out... |
| NudeRiver | while... my wife went in anyway... finding the windows open, AC on, and the water running in the bathroom... not dripping... running |
| NudeRiver | plus, she discovered they smashed and destroyed the bedroom door -- she found the door in the backyard |
| NudeRiver | my wife also picked up some cable and internet equipment that belongs to us |
| NudeRiver | and she also found what looked like illegal drugs in the home |
| NudeRiver | while... the tenants phoned us this morning, upset that she went in -- but it's our right, they moved out! |
| NudeRiver | and they said they will not let our real estate in today... like they think they have any right to refuse us and control the situaltion |
| NudeRiver | our agent still went there and did a home inspection |
| NudeRiver | and, as soon as I heard the vindictive tone of the phone message, I took the day off work and we all went their in the afternoon |
| NudeRiver | luckily, the tenants we're gone when we arrived... and we proceeded to take back our home... changed the locks |
| NudeRiver | the tenants arrived around 5pm and when we confronted them about the smashed door, they replied "what door?"... just playing dumb |
| NudeRiver | I've never seen such liars like this in my life |
| NudeRiver | oh... after their phonecall this morning, I phoned them back, left a message and said my wife had many reasons to enter |
| NudeRiver | and that they smashed the door and they would need to pay for it -- and it would be expensive |
| NudeRiver | while... the door disappeared today |
| NudeRiver | I think my phone call scared them and they took the door away... trouble with that, they also took the hardware away too |
| NudeRiver | people like this... just make me sick |
| NudeRiver | oh well... we have the place back and that's what important |
| NudeRiver | oh... also when we went their today, the tenants we're gone, but the front door was wide open, AC running, and windows open |
| NudeRiver | the front door must have been open for an hour before we got there |
| NudeRiver | now we have the house to clean up and sell, trailer to sell too |
| ktreb | wonders | if they paid a security deposit that you can withhold. That's usually the standard down here. At move-in you do a run through with tenants.. |
| NudeRiver | moneys going to be tight, but figure should be ok |
| ktreb | ...to note condition of home. Then you do a run through at move-out and again note condition of home. It should be in same condition... |
| NudeRiver | security deposits are illegal here -- landlords have very little rights here... |
| ktreb | ...as move-in. Otherwise, landlord can withhold some/all of deposit. |
| NudeRiver | there is a "landlord tenant act", which basically just gives tenants all the rights |
| NudeRiver | the only deposit that is allowed is last months rent -- and it can only be applied to last months rent |
| ktreb | says | tenants have a lot of rights down here as well. But the run through at the beginning and end of rental protects both. |
| NudeRiver | we can always sue them damages |
| ktreb | says | down here, it's usually first and last months rent plus security deposit. Sometimes that deposit can be as much as one month's rent. |
| NudeRiver | my wife threatened them with that -- their response, go ahead, as they're on welfare and have no money for us to get |
| ktreb | says | suing is sticky business, especially if they don't have money or other assets. |
| NudeRiver | sounds like your landlords have more rights than ours here |
| NudeRiver | anyway... just happy they're gone and we can move on with our lives now... too stressful |
| ktreb | says | yes, but tenants do have a lot of rights and laws do favor them. |
| NudeRiver | we we're there today from 3pm till 12:30am... just got home an hour ago... just cleaning and fixing things |
| ktreb | wonders | if you took pictures. You could always post them online to show what they did to your house. Just to vent. |
| NudeRiver | and last night I only got 3 hours sleep... just too much stress... should go to bed now |
| ktreb | says | good night then. I'm heading to bed myself. |
| NudeRiver | ahh... here's actually something interesting and strange |
| NudeRiver | on the second floor, they mysteriously cut a hole in the wall and replastered it... hole is about 1 foot square |
| NudeRiver | it's very fresh too -- can still smell the plaster |
| NudeRiver | when I asked them about it, they said it was damage caused by a wall unit |
| NudeRiver | very strange though, for they broke lots of other things, 2 doors for instance... |
| NudeRiver | why would they go to the effort of caring to fix a hole? |
| NudeRiver | I feel I should call the police, for I really feel like they hid something inside the wall |
| NudeRiver | maybe drugs... maybe a body |
| NudeRiver | or... should I just let it go? |
| NudeRiver | would the police even care? |
