They have to scale their services first.... IM is down + xml is down which is starting to worry me.
  • yojibee
I was actually happy that IM is down..maybe I can get some work done now ;-)
  • yojibee
but I do hope they have learned just a little bit about scaling from Twitter
  • oliverkohl
Which notifications did you get over IM yojibee? Also new plurks?
  • yojibee
oliverkohl everything..new plurks and comments on older plurks
  • oliverkohl
I only got comments on old plurks :-(
  • shaf thinks
that the IM service is the yardstick to measure how solid a service is. IM is complicated technically to offer.
  • yojibee thinks
they weren't really prepared for Leo Laporte/his words and it's aftermath yet
  • shaf
hopes we are not talking about twitter ! A distant fragmented memory for me.
  • yojibee
I am still hoping Twitter will be back
  • shaf
in a way so am I but if it can thread conversations out of tweets I would be right back there. Subject to a solid SLA :-)
  • yojibee
depends where everyone moves as well I guess
  • yojibee
a mix of these two would have been perfect! (and a dash of FriendFeed too)
  • yojibee thinks
where the conversation should jump to the top..easier to follow where the conversation happens then
  • yojibee
so sorry about my language there..second try..
  • yojibee thinks
plurks/tweets where conversation happens, should be on top. It makes it easier to follow the conversation as it happens
  • yojibee thinks
conversation is already a part of how Karma is applied
  • dhague
Are we starting to design the next-gen service here? Perhaps ccmehil could sort out venture capital and we could run on NetWeaver... (woot)
  • yojibee
do you know any developers with time on their hands? oliver also has many good ideas ;-)
  • dhague
I'm already investigating Skittr for NetWeaver - it pushes messages straight to the browser, so very responsive & bandwidth-efficient.
  • dhague
oliver Do let me know. Wouldn't it be funny if we used Plurk to design its successor? A bit like Deep Thought in H2G2.
  • yojibee
it would be so much fun! And no one would expect it from a bunch of SAP guys (and girl) ;-)
  • oliverkohl
Ideas are not a problem ;-) For now I have to struggle with different names on all the platforms. oliver only exists on Twitter :-(
  • oliverkohl thinks
building on top of a (stable) established platform makes sense and Twitter is mostly perfect for this (if it is available at all).
  • yojibee thinks
we should go for it! :-D
  • sig
Bugger me, SAP creativity in action, me likes :-)
  • shaf
shudders to think how much the consultancy costs are going to be - let alone implementing a solution ! :-D
  • oliverkohl
shaf think about all the 30 seconds to wait for a deployment...that sums up :-&
  • oliverkohl
What about building a social network platform on top of EP using UME as social graph + integrating backend notifications from R/3?
  • dhague
I'm thinking that we would need to use JMS for reliable messaging
  • dhague
Riffing on Henning's Sapphire theme, use TREX/column-oriented access for all reads.
  • yojibee asks
where is ccmehil? He should be in on this as well..
  • ccmehil says
I'm here just kind of watching it's been a rough day and I got a train to catch in the morning for Bonn
  • yojibee says
;-) There's a lot going on in Lippstadt at the moment..I hope you find some time to rest in between..
  • shaf is
reading dhague link but before I read it JMS is too heavy
  • shaf wants
a cig first - yes I'm bad sorry... brb
  • dhague
Maybe we should take this to Plexus?
  • ccmehil says
rest? what's that oh wait I think I have a bed around here somewhere I remember it kind of LOL
  • yojibee says
ccmehil sleep tight (when you find your bed)
  • shaf says
dhague thanks for the link which I didn't find spicy enough however the responses were great ! I finally ended up here...
  • shaf loves
    the comments
  • oliverkohl
dhague Haven't read it yet. With Twitters issues there should be a lot of material out there about horizontal scaling of such a service.
  • oliverkohl
But in respect to our usual customers I would go for a intranet solution with connection to the outside of course.
  • oliverkohl
A product based on EP to enable social capabilities inside a company. How about that?
  • dhague
That's exactly what I'm thinking. Being SAP, we should be working on Enterprise Twitter/Plurk. Good focus & business case.
  • dhague
Heh - "being SAP, we" - boy have I drunk that SAP Kool Aid.
  • yojibee says
and better UI! This one is slowly getting on my nerves
  • yojibee says
and it can not be used in any business setting what so ever
  • oliverkohl
dhague I think we have to talk. Damn, you were in Munich with sig and Sterling? How could I missed you?
  • yojibee says
it is about time that an enterprise tool a like this gets built
  • yojibee likes
that it already has a name as well (ESME) ;-)
  • shaf wants
to start a real project around this :-)
  • oliverkohl
We need some concept, use cases, etc. The wiki is a good place to start.
  • yojibee says
    I'm so excited
  • shaf thinks
he'll take a look in ;-) But back to my day job first :-( Caio for now
  • yellowpark
No business use? Am I in a thread of SAP peeps collaborating on a thread. that's one, surely?
  • shaf
yellowpark I'm definitely not SAP but have used ECMs in the past - would be interesting to see what Netweaver can do.
