teacher-directed classes were around long before IWBs, they'll be around long after. IWBs just make the instruction more expensive.
  • joelzehring thinks
this comes down to costs vs. rewards. Maybe we could conduct a little IWB Cost/Reward brainstorm?
  • DianeA says
we had a student on a discussion panel thsi summer who said he would have liked to use the board more himself, not just the teacher!

would love to be there. on vacation. I try to let my kids manipulate IWB. They love it!

Would you all like to guest on our show?
  • joelzehring says
I would, but schedules won't permit. I'll probably just talk to myself as I listen later on my iPod while other people look at me funny.
  • megbg says
what time? I'll see if I can get access from the Jersey shore. :-)
  • joelzehring says
LParisi is it okay if I do that cost/reward thing on a new plurk page? I don't want to step on your plurk toes.
  • LParisi says

joelz I would love to be part of that plurk conversation. Do you think we have that info?
  • LParisi says
What are we measuring? Test scores? # of Graduates? #of dropouts? Assess struggling students?
  • dmcordell says
if the teacher uses it as a glorified chalkboard/whiteboard what's the point? Commitment and adequate PD is essential.
  • LParisi says
But can it do anyhitng else besides making your blackboard more exciting? (I am a SB enthusiast btw but wonderting these questins now)
  • dmcordell says
our Math & Science teachers love it. ELA teacher seems to want to use it for vocab flashcards, a waste IMHO
  • dmcordell says
Math for graphing & notes, Science for virtual dissections, etc.

this topic. Will come to be a lurker and listen. I don't use IBW because of this very issue.

I don't have research-based data, so it's all anecdotes and professional opinion right now
  • LParisi says
So who's coming on the show?
  • DianeA says
i haven't actually used the board myself yet; just had my one student comment from another class experience
  • megbg says
sorry, just found out we'll have company "down the shore" (Philly saying :-))
  • Yurkwi says
totally depends on how the IWB is used.
