lizbdavis is Jul 08, 2008 09:21PM inspired by mhobkirk to teach game design next year - even though I have no idea how to do it. Kids can teach me. Also thinking about...
lizbdavis asks Jul 08, 2008 09:22PM am I crazy? Is this doable? Does anyone else have any advice for me?
lizbdavis Jul 08, 2008 09:23PM I have inherited a "Technology Applications" course in my new job. It has two students enrolled (boys in 10th -12th grades).
lizbdavis Jul 08, 2008 09:24PM I've been struggling with what to do with the class - had this idea today. We can learn it together - a great example of learning to learn.
LParisi says Jul 08, 2008 09:25PM I think that's a great idea. Isn't Alice supposed to be like Scratch?
smeech says Jul 08, 2008 09:34PM Hey Liz... check out www.thegamecreators.com/ There Newsletter is interesting...
smeech says Jul 08, 2008 09:36PM Also.. this college is in Chicago... probably something similar else where but neat! www.flashpointacademy.com/
lizbdavis Jul 08, 2008 09:54PM The class she is taking looks amazing - but going to Denver for 10 days is pretty unlikely for me (2 kids under 6 years old).
colleenk Jul 08, 2008 10:29PM teaches game design. You need to learn the basics of programming on your own and then work w/ students to make their game ideas happen.
colleenk Jul 08, 2008 10:33PM You can't know everything but you should know enough be able to guide your students. Things they will want to do, you won't even encounter.
budtheteacher Jul 08, 2008 10:33PM I agree with colleenk - I'd learn a bit more before putting a course together.
dmantz7 says Jul 08, 2008 11:40PM lizbdavis needs to contact Glenn Wiebe at ESSDACK. He has a website/software application that has been used by schools to create games.
mcarls Jul 09, 2008 02:03AM I would like to add this as a favorite Plurk, something I need to come back to as I play more with scratch.mit.edu/
